A hand painted barbotine earthenware plate designed by French artist Hervé Di Rosa for the Paris edition house Axis, signed on the reverse "Di Rosa pour Axis, Paris." Di Rosa is a leading figure of France's Figuration Libre movement, his cartoon-bright, comic-influenced style often named alongside Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Kenny Scharf. The crocodile is a recurring Di Rosa character — he created a documented "pour Axis" crocodile design — which makes this an especially fun one for collectors.

Raised, slip-trailed black outlines frame vivid glazes depicting a green crocodile mid-dance in a jaunty blue-and-red cap, under a hand painted green scalloped rim.

Measures approximately 8" in diameter. Very Good to Excellent vintage condition — no true crazing, cracks, or chips; a fine, consistent scattering of tiny raised specks across the glaze is part of the handmade barbotine surface, not wear. A genuine 1980s French art plate ready for its second act. Made in France, artist signed.
