A charming covered dish in a form American glass lovers know and collect — the "hen on nest." This one is by Mosser Glass of Cambridge, Ohio, pressed in gorgeous cobalt-blue slag: deep royal blue marbled with milky white in a one-of-a-kind swirl, so no two pieces are ever exactly alike. The detail is lovely — a proud, finely feathered hen forms the lid, settled into a scalloped-rim basket-weave nest, with the rich cobalt glass glowing wherever the light catches it.

Lift the hen to reveal a tidy little dish beneath — perfect for candy, trinkets, jewelry, a ring dish, or a few wrapped sweets on a console or vanity. The classic hen-on-nest shape has been made by American glasshouses since the 19th century; this is a contemporary Mosser interpretation in that beloved tradition, with the swirled slag treatment collectors especially love.
